Jonathan A. Burns, M.A.

Jonathan Burns received his M.A. in archaeology from Colorado State University and is currently a doctoral student at Temple University in Philadelphia.  He has been working in archaeology in Pennsylvania since 1988 and specializes in spatial analysis and mapping with a particular interest in rockshelters in the northeast.  He is the executive director, president, and a member of the board of directors of AXIS Research, Inc.

Robert E. Kruchoski, B.S.

Rob Kruchoski received his B.S. in geology from Juniata College in 2004 where he developed an interest in the application of earth sciences to archaeology.  He is the secretary and a member of the executive committee and board of directors of AXIS Research, Inc.  Rob rides a Honda CM450.
 

John E. Foss, Ph.D.

John Foss is the pioneer in the application of pedology to archaeological investigations and has worked on the Thunderbird, Shawnee Minisink, Topper, and Kenewick sites, to name just a few.  His international work includes research in France, Italy, Greece, Jordan, and Central and South America.  He is currently emeritus professor of pedology at the University of Tennessee, president of Soils International, Inc., and a member of the board of directors of AXIS Research, Inc. 

John S. Wah, Ph.D.

John Wah received his Ph.D. in Pedology from the University of Maryland in 2003 and has worked with soils in archaeology since 1996.  He does field work, runs the soil lab and is vice president and a member of the board of directors of AXIS Research, Inc.  His main interests are eolian sediments and stratified alluvial sequences.  He rides a Royal Enfield Bullet.

Stephen G. Warfel, M.A.

Steve Warfel has been The State Museum of Pennsylvania’s Senior Curator of Archaeology since 1980.  He has actively conducted archaeological investigations on prehistoric and historic period sites for the past thirty-seven years.   Public education in archaeology is a strong personal interest.    At The State Museum he initiated and produced a popular annual Workshops In Archaeology program for general audiences.  From 1991 through 2003, Steve instructed archaeological field school classes in cooperation with various colleges and universities at Commonwealth historic sites Ephrata Cloister, Eckley Miners’ Village, Fort Augusta, and the Joseph Priestley House and Laboratory.  He is a member of the board of directors of AXIS Research, Inc., and he rides a Suzuki GS450L.

 

Paul A. Raber, Ph.D.

Paul Raber received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Penn State in 1984 and has served as Senior Archaeologist and Director of Archaeological Services for Heberling Associates since 1990. He has participated in archaeological field investigations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, and Cyprus, and has served as Principal Investigator for more than 100 archaeological projects.  Paul is a member of the Board of Directors of AXIS Research, Inc.

Daniel P. Wagner, Ph.D.

Dan Wagner has worked as a consulting pedologist throughout Eastern North America, Central America, and the Caribbean for 30 years.  In recent years he has increasingly concentrated his efforts in pedoarchaeological studies  involving paleogeographic analyses of prehistoric sites emphasizing Holocene depositional and soil weathering sequences as well as evolving environmental conditions.  one of his more recent of projects involved the eolian soil stratigraphy at the pre-Clovis Cactus Hill Site. Dan is president of Geo-Sci Consultants, Inc., part-time faculty at Johns Hopkins University where he has taught an environmental soils course for 14 years, and a member of the Board of Directors of AXIS Research, Inc.

Kurt W. Carr, Ph.D.

Kurt Carr has been with the Bureau for Historic Preservation, Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission since 1980 and served as the Chief of the Division of Archaeology and Protection between 1988 and 2005.  He has conducted fieldwork at stratified Paleoindian and Early Archaic sites along the Shenandoah River, stratified Late Archaic and Woodland sites along the Delaware River, Late Woodland villages in the Lower Susquehanna Valley, and jasper and rhyolite quarry sites. His research interests include Early Holocene adaptations, lithic technology, settlement pattern analysis, geomorphology and environmental reconstructions.   He has also conducted fieldwork in the Ukraine and Italy. He is very concerned with the impacts of state and federal construction projects on archaeological resources and the impacts of "sprawl" in general to all cultural resources. Kurt is a lecturer at the Harrisburg Area Community College and a member of the Board of Directors of AXIS Research, Inc.
