The Mid-Atlantic Association
of Professional Soil Scientists (MAPSS) is a non- profit organization
dedicated to the advancement of the profession of soil science and the
protection of the public interest in matters related to soil science.
The Association was organized in 1987 and serves professionals
primarily in the Maryland, Delaware and District of Columbia area. The
membership consists of private consultants, federal government
employees, university faculty, state and county employees and other
individuals interested in the goals and objectives of the Association in
the Mid-Atlantic region. |

about the last 2 million years of Earth history. Studying the Quaternary
is critically important because it has been a time of frequent and
dramatic environmental changes, exemplified by growing and decaying
continental ice sheets and mountain glaciers. |

The Society for
Pennsylvania Archaeology, Inc. was organized in 1929 to: Promote the
study of the prehistoric and historic archaeological resources of
Pennsylvania and neighboring states; Encourage scientific research and
discourage exploration which is unscientific or irresponsible in intent
or practice; Promote the conservation of archaeological sites,
artifacts, and information; Encourage the establishment and maintenance
of sources of archaeological information such as museums, societies, and
educational programs; Promote the dissemination of archaeological
knowledge by means of publications and forums; Foster the exchange of
information between the professional and the avocational archaeologists.
